VOLUNTEER WITH ANIMAL SERVICES
volunteer Animal Services welcomes volunteers who have some love and time to spare, to work with the animals that are in our adoption program. We utilize volunteers in a variety of capacities, but mainly to socialize and play with the animals to help them become more adaptable to a kennel situation. Animals need and crave human companionship, and do not thrive without it. You must be over 18 to volunteer.

FOSTER HOMES
Animal Services has a foster program to socialize animals for adoption. If a dog is not adjusting to kenneling, we will try to place him in a foster home until a suitable permanent home can be found.

Sometimes the animals are too young to be kept in the shelter or the animal may be injured and need a little more attention. Without foster homes, many of these underaged animals would die because their immune systems are weak at such an early age.

If you have room in your home and your heart, call Animal Services at 941.861.9500.

ADOPT FROM ANIMAL SERVICES
The goal of our adoption program is to help place the stray and unwanted pets brought into our facility. Each dog or cat is given an overall health exam by one of our Animal Care Technicians. The adoption fee for dogs/puppies is $70. The fee for cats/kittens is $60. This fee includes neutering or spaying (FSS 823.15, requires that any dog or cat adopted from an animal shelter must be surgically sterilized), a rabies vaccination and county license for the first year, and dogs are microchipped for identification. If you are interested in an animal please print out and complete the adoption application, scan and email it to adoptions@sarasotasheriff.org

Animal Services has no maximum holding period for an adoptable animal. The length of time an animal is kept depends on how well the animal handles being kenneled. These evaluations are done on an individual basis and the determination of how long to keep an animal is based on observations made by the Animal Care Technicians.

On occasion we have other animals for adoption, such as birds, ferrets and rabbits. For information on these animals contact the Animal Services Section at 941.861.9500.
