Deputies responded to an apartment in the 3200 block of Nature Circle, Sarasota, early Sunday morning around 12:45 a.m. for a reported stabbing. When they arrived, deputies found 24-year-old Leonard Ambriz inside his home with serious injuries to his lower back and arm. Ambriz was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital where he remains in critical condition. Detectives conducted an investigation which revealed 20-year-old David Vega was responsible for the stabbing. Vega drove to Ambriz’ home to confront him about an issue involving a girlfriend they have in common. When Ambriz heard someone knock on his front door, he opened it and was immediately stabbed twice by Vega before Vega fled the area.    

 

Vega was arrested late Sunday night and charged with a single count of Attempted Murder. He remains in custody today at the Sarasota County Jail on $100,000 bond.
