NEWS RELEASE 26-052 - OCTOBER 11, 2026

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deputy involved shooting that occurred at 4818 Hoyer Drive, early Sunday morning.
The incident followed a shooting that occurred at 12:19 a.m. in the McDonald’s parking lot located at the corner of Bee Ridge Road and Cattlemen Road in Sarasota. No injuries were reported at that location. The suspect fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.
Deputies were able to ascertain that the suspect, 39-year-old Casey King, DOB 11/28/86, returned to his home located on Hoyer Drive in Sarasota. When Patrol deputies arrived at the home, they took positions around the house. From a marked vehicle with activated siren, a deputy made several announcements for King to surrender and exit the residence.
King opened fire on the deputies in front of the residence. A deputy returned fire striking King multiple times. He was taken into custody and transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for treatment.
He is currently in critical but stable condition. King is facing 5 counts of Attempted Second-Degree Murder on a Law Enforcement Officer for shooting at responding deputies. Additional charges are expected in relation to the McDonalds shooting.
This is an active and ongoing investigation.
