Sarasota County Sheriff Kurt A. Hoffman is pleased to announce that Captain Brian James graduated September 4^th from the Florida Sheriff’s Association (FSA) Commanders Academy, Graduating Class 19.

Captain James, Commander of the Special Operations Bureau, completed the academy at the Florida Sheriff’s Association headquarters in Tallahassee. The program was designed by sheriffs to ensure that these leaders have the background and training to carry out their responsibilities in the agencies they serve. This program is recognized as a premier course of executive study for mid to upper-level criminal justice leaders.

“Participation in the FSA Commanders Academy is beneficial to the graduates, our agency and to the community as a whole,” said Sheriff Hoffman. “Our law enforcement commanders must make thoughtful and complex decisions daily. Leadership development training is critical to making those types of decisions.”

Captain James and commanders from 40 other Florida sheriff’s offices participated in the two-week course. The curriculum covers topics such as leadership, discipline, ethics, and other relevant subjects, as well as emerging trends and issues facing law enforcement.
