Sheriff Hoffman Announces Promotions

Sarasota County Sheriff Kurt A. Hoffman is proud to announce the promotion of two sheriff’s office members during a ceremony held on Thursday.

Deputy Logan Mayer was promoted to sergeant assigned to the Patrol Bureau. In January of 2017, Mayer began his career at SCSO as a deputy in the Patrol Bureau. After three years, he transferred to investigations where he was assigned to the Special Investigations Section. In 2023, he joined the Tactical Unit. Logan received a Unit Citation as a member of the Tactical Unit and received the Sheriff’s Office Combat Cross Award. Mayer possesses a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Florida Gulf Coast University.

Creative Communications Specialist Doug Johnson was promoted to Community Affairs Manager. Johnson was hired by the sheriff’s office in August of 2015 in the Creative Communications Specialist position. In 2018, he received the agency’s Meritorious Achievement Award, and two years later was nominated for the Civilian Employee of the Year. In 2025, he was awarded a Unit Citation as a member of the Community Affairs Section for his assistance with creating and developing the first Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) Annual Block Party. Johnson possesses a Bachelor of Arts in Moving Image Arts from the College of Santa Fe.
