Sarasota County Sheriff Kurt A. Hoffman is proud to announce the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) Corrections Training Academy’s fifth graduating class.

On Monday, May 11, the 14 newest recruits of the Courts and Corrections Division gathered at Robert L. Anderson Administration Center, Venice, to celebrate with family, friends, and agency members. The graduation ceremony followed their extensive academy curriculum, where the recruits were instructed in physical fitness, firearms, defensive tactics, first aid, legal, officer safety, and correctional supervision. Additionally, they trained in emergency response, communications, and were made familiar with the agency’s facility and equipment.

“It is an honor to welcome our fifth graduating class from the SCSO Corrections Basic Recruit Academy,” commented Sheriff Hoffman. “We take great pride in being able to provide the education and training that springboards these recruits into their correctional careers.”

The 14 graduates included: Corrections Deputy Kyle Coffey, who served as class President, and Corrections Deputies Everett Baker, Silvia Bani, Patrick Barrett, Tyler Davis, Sean Dennison, Joseph Knapek, Luisa Lasso, Connor Matthews, Troy Montgomery, Steven Serrano, Jr., Jake Strauss, Devin Terry, and Jon Wisman. These deputies were also sworn in at the ceremony and will be assigned to the Corrections Bureau where they will continue their training.
