NEWS RELEASE 26-004 - FEBRUARY 4, 2026
On February 03, 2026, Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) Patrol, K-9, Tactical Unit, Aviation, and Narcotics Enforcement Team responded to a reported shooting at Lowe’s Home Improvement, 4020 Central Sarasota Parkway. The victim was shot in the leg, and the suspect had fled the area. The victim was transported to the hospital and treated for his injuries. Deputies searched the area and located the suspect not far from the incident location.
SCSO Criminal Investigations Section along with the Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. The investigation revealed that the victim and the suspect are known to each other.
The suspect was identified as Kaleb Michael Caire, W/M, DOB: 01/28/2001. He was arrested and charged with Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon (Domestic), Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon Without Intent to Kill (Domestic), Obstructing Justice: Tamper with Evidence in a Criminal Proceeding, and Discharge Firearm/Weapon on Public/Residential Property.
The investigation is ongoing.
