The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a reported battery incident involving a male and female at the 4500 block of Ottawa Trail, Sarasota, that occurred around 10:08 a.m. this morning. Upon arrival, deputies discovered that the female victim had been shot and was conscious. A rifle was found on the ground in the outside parking area. The male suspect, who is the victim's husband, was present at the scene and has been detained.
Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for treatment. Deputies conducted a thorough check of the residence to ensure there were no additional victims, and none were found. The scene has been secured, and the investigation is ongoing. There is no danger to the public.
