The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) is investigating a deputy-involved shooting that occurred at 5050 Central Sarasota Parkway, Saratoga Place at Palmer Ranch.
At 8:53 a.m. the Emergency Operations Bureau received a 911 notification from a caller threatening to harm himself. Members of the Patrol Bureau were dispatched, and the first deputy arrived at 9:05 a.m. The deputy contacted the subject, who was armed with a kitchen knife outside of the residence. The deputy gave multiple verbal commands to drop the weapon. The subject did not comply, pointed the knife at the deputy, and advanced toward the deputy. The deputy had no option but to respond with deadly force to protect himself.
Responding deputies on scene rendered aid until the Sarasota County Fire Department arrived. The subject was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where he is being treated for his injuries. No SCSO member was injured during this incident. This is an ongoing investigation.
