Sarasota County Sheriff Kurt A. Hoffman is proud to announce the promotion of nine sheriff’s office members in a ceremony held on Thursday.
Communications Operator I Amber Hyde is promoted to supervisor. The sheriff’s office hired Hyde in 2019 as a communications operator III. In 2022, she obtained her certification to dispatch law enforcement and was promoted to communications operator II. Following her training and acquiring additional certifications, she advanced to communications operator I. She was also appointed as a member of the Incident Dispatch Team and has been nominated for the Emergency Operations Bureau’s Employee of the Month. Supervisor Hyde holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Health.
Corrections Deputy Brandon Goldberg is promoted to corrections sergeant and assigned to the Corrections Operations Bureau. The sheriff’s office hired Goldberg in 2018, and he was assigned to the Corrections Operations Bureau. He was later appointed as a member of the Corrections Emergency Response Team and served as a Corrections Field Training Deputy. He has received five nominations for Employee of the Month and was recognized in October of 2021 with the award for the Court and Corrections Division. He was nominated for Courts and Corrections Deputy of the Year and received the Lifesaving Award in May of 2022. Sergeant Goldberg holds an Associate of Science in Criminal Justice.
Deputy Kyle Collison is promoted to sergeant and assigned to the Patrol Bureau. The sheriff’s office hired Collison in 2016, and he was assigned to the Patrol Bureau. He has spent a majority of his career in special investigations, intelligence, and the agency’s Tactical Unit. He served on the Emergency Response Team and received the Law Enforcement Division’s Employee of the Month Award in August of 2021. Sergeant Collison holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice.
Deputy Andrew Prummell is promoted to sergeant and assigned to the Patrol Bureau. The sheriff’s office hired Prummell in 2018 where he was assigned to the Patrol Bureau. He later transferred to the Criminal Investigations Section and then was appointed as a member of the Sheriff’s Underwater Recovery Force (SURF) Team. He received the Life Saving Award for rescuing a drowning victim in 2019. Sergeant Prummell holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
Deputy Paul Eagans is promoted to sergeant and assigned to the Corrections Operations Bureau. The sheriff’s office hired Eagans in 2009, and he was assigned as a corrections deputy to the Courts and Corrections Division. In 2016, he was appointed as a member of the Corrections Emergency Response Team. Upon transferring from corrections, he became a Field Training Deputy for both the Law Enforcement and Courts and Corrections Divisions. As a cross-over recruit, he attended the Sarasota Criminal Justice Academy and obtained his law enforcement certification. He has been nominated three times for Employee of the Month and received the award in December of 2013. Sergeant Eagans holds an Associate of Science in Criminal Justice.
Sergeant James Darby is promoted to lieutenant and assigned to the Patrol Bureau. The sheriff’s office hired Darby in 2003, and he was assigned to the front desk before transferring to the Patrol Bureau. He was later appointed as a member of the Emergency Response Team followed by a promotion to sergeant in the Patrol Bureau. Throughout his career, he has served in criminal investigations, community services, homeless outreach, youth services, crime prevention, and as a Field Training Deputy. He has been nominated seven times for Employee of the Month and also nominated for Supervisor of the Year. He has received the Lifesaving Award and a Unit Citation as a member of the Homeless Outreach Team. Lieutenant Darby holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminology.
Sergeant Gerardo Carillo is promoted to lieutenant and assigned to the Patrol Bureau. The sheriff’s office hired Carillo in 2003, and he was assigned to the Patrol Bureau. Two years later he was appointed to the Emergency Response Team and serves as the team’s commander. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2015 and has served in many capacities in investigations and intelligence as well as an assignment with a multi-agency gang task force. He was awarded a Meritorious Achievement Award and was recognized with the agency’s Combat Cross Award. Lieutenant Carillo holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology.
Lieutenant Brian James is promoted to captain and assigned to the Special Operations Bureau. The sheriff’s office hired James in 2009, and he was assigned to the Patrol Bureau. He has served as a Field Training Deputy and was appointed as a member of the SWAT team. He also served as a sergeant in the Patrol Bureau before promoting to lieutenant. He has been nominated for Employee of the Month three times. Captain James is a graduate of the 23rd St. Leo Command Officer Management Course and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Emergency and Disaster Management.
Lieutenant Adam Kaskey is promoted to captain and assigned to the Investigations Bureau. The sheriff’s office hired Kaskey in 2006, and he was assigned to the Patrol Bureau. He served as a Field Training Deputy, a detective in the Criminal Investigations Section, and as a Tactical Flight Deputy. He was promoted to sergeant and assigned to patrol and then criminal investigations. Following his promotion to lieutenant, he again served in patrol and criminal investigations. Kaskey has received three Meritorious Achievement Awards. He is a graduate of the 83rd
Southern Police Institute Command Officers’ Development Course and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and a Master of Science in Criminal Justice. Captain Kaskey is an FAA commercial rated pilot and a proud Marine Corps veteran.
