SCSO Participating in Rx Drug Take Back Campaign

NEWS RELEASE 24-049 - OCTOBER 23, 2024
DRUG TAKEBACK

On Saturday, October 26, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., law enforcement agencies throughout Sarasota County, will participate in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Prescription Drug Take Back Campaign.

Drug turn-in events address a vital public safety, public health, and environmental issue. Studies show that most abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from home medicine cabinets.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has a permanent drop box located at our headquarters at 6010 Cattleridge Boulevard, Sarasota, which is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., daily. Several other local law enforcement agencies also have permanent drop boxes in their lobbies and will be participating in the event.

Medication turn-in is always anonymous. Solid dosage medication (prescription and over the counter) such as tablets and capsules are accepted. Liquids and needles will not qualify. While boxes are available to the public year-round, agencies participate in the national turn-in initiative to publicize proper disposal.
