Sarasota Woman Arrested for DUI Crash with Children in Vehicle

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Sarasota woman after she crashed her vehicle while driving drunk with two children in the car.
 
Deputies responded to a vehicle crash Friday around 6:00 p.m. near the intersection of Tuttle Avenue and Southgate Circle in Sarasota. When deputies arrived, Kimberly Toomey, DOB 01/18/92, smelled of alcohol and appeared impaired. Inside the car were two children, ages 4 and 8, both uninjured. Deputies with the Traffic Unit responded to the scene and conducted a field sobriety test. Toomey told deputies she consumed alcohol while picking up the children just prior to the crash. The Florida Department of Children and Family Services responded and took custody of both children. Toomey was taken to the Sarasota County Jail, and a breath alcohol test revealed a .355 blood alcohol content, more than four times the legal limit. The other driver involved in the crash was not injured.
 
Toomey, of 3451 Queens Street, Unit 328, is charged with DUI with Property Damage, DUI with Blood Alcohol Content .15 of Higher and two counts of DUI with a Passenger Under 18 Years Old. She has one prior arrest for DUI in 2013. Toomey was released on Saturday on $860 bond.
