The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office arrested a convicted felon on drug and weapons charges Thursday night following a traffic stop and short vehicle pursuit.

Just after 10:00 p.m., patrol deputies on Tamiami Trail near Club Drive initiated a traffic stop on a red sedan without headlights on. When deputies attempted to contact the driver, Ramirez Bradwell, DOB 11/04/88, he fled southbound on Tamiami Trail. As deputies pursued the vehicle, they witnessed Bradwell throw two objects out the passenger window. With support from the agency’s Aviation and Tactical Units, deputies eventually stopped the car near Bay Avenue where Bradwell was taken into custody. Further investigation revealed the items Bradwell threw out the window were a stolen handgun along with nearly five grams of fentanyl in a plastic bag, a trafficking amount. During a search of the vehicle, an additional 1.4 grams of fentanyl were located under the driver floormat.

Bradwell, of 7760 Duckhorn Court in Orlando, was arrested and taken to the Sarasota County Jail. He has four prior felony convictions and is now charged with Armed Trafficking in Fentanyl, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Fleeing to Elude. Bradwell remains in custody today on $235,000 bond.
