Sheriff Kurt A. Hoffman is proud to announce that a sheriff’s office deputy was promoted to the rank of sergeant.
Sergeant Brian Bercaw was hired by the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office in March 2016 and assigned to the Patrol Bureau. The following year he was selected to serve with the sheriff’s specialized Emergency Response Team. Bercaw then transferred to the Criminal Investigations Section, working in the Special Victims Unit then serving in the Economic Crimes Unit.
Before working for the sheriff’s office, Bercaw graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and obtained his law enforcement certification at Valencia College. Bercaw continued his education and training through various schools and conferences, including Child Abuse Investigations, Economic Crimes Investigations, and Case Preparation and Court Presentation. In 2017, he received the agency's prestigious Heroic Achievement Award for rescuing a subject from a suicide attempt.
"It is with great pleasure that I watch Sergeant Bercaw take the next step in his career," said Sheriff Hoffman. "His commitment to serving the citizens of Sarasota County shows in his outstanding performance."
