Sarasota County Sheriff Kurt A. Hoffman is pleased to announce that another senior staff member graduated from the Florida Sheriffs Association’s Commanders Academy.
Today, Colonel Brian Woodring, Hoffman’s Chief Deputy, completed the Academy at the Florida Sheriffs Association headquarters in Tallahassee. The Academy was designed by sheriffs to ensure upper-level criminal justice leaders have the background and training to carry out their responsibilities within the agencies they serve. The program was developed in conjunction with the Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute.
“Participation in the Commanders Academy is beneficial to law enforcement leaders across the state as we work to reduce crime in Florida communities and strengthen the infrastructure of our organizations,” commented Sheriff Hoffman. “Law enforcement commanders must make complex and thoughtful decisions daily, which is where this type of leadership development training can really make a difference.”
Woodring, along with commanders from 28 other Florida sheriff’s offices, participated in 64 hours of curriculum on topics including leadership, ethics, discipline, and other areas related to upper-level leadership as well as emerging trends and issues in law enforcement.
