The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Nokomis man Monday morning only minutes after he broke into two vehicles.

Deputies were first called to the 1800 block of Worrington Street in Sarasota, just after 5:30 a.m., for a report of burglary in progress. According to the victim, when he exited his home, he spotted David Skolnick, DOB 10/04/82, inside his car going through his personal belongings. As Skolnick fled, he dropped a plastic bag containing several pairs of high-end sunglasses. A short time later, the sheriff’s office received another report of a vehicle burglary nearby. Members of both the Aviation and K-9 units responded and located Skolnick in a wooded area near the intersection on Lakeshore Drive and Camino Real. Skolnick initially refused to comply but was quickly taken into custody. Through investigation, detectives connected Skolnick to another vehicle burglary that happened overnight on nearby Kenilworth Street.

Detectives charged Skolnick with three counts of Burglary of a Conveyance and a single count of Resisting an Officer without Violence. He remains in custody today on $5,000 bond. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending. Skolnick has been arrested several times in Sarasota County on various charges including Burglary, Fraud and Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon. He also served time in prison and was just released in May 2016.
