Venice Duo Arrested for Synthetic Drugs

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office arrested two men on drug charges after deputies discovered more than 300 grams of Butane Hash Oil in the trunk of their vehicle.

Deputies were first alerted to a possible vehicle burglary when they came across a car with its alarm going off early Thursday morning at approximately 12:05 a.m., at the intersection of Verona and Adriatic Streets in Nokomis. When deputies approached the driver and occupant, both men consented to a search of the car which yielded 91 individually-wrapped paper packages of Butane Hash Oil. The driver, Alexander Rice, DOB 06/14/98, admitted the drugs were his along with more than $2,000 in cash recovered from the vehicle. Dylan Hawk-Filicky, DOB 08/17/96, also admitted to knowing the drugs were in the trunk.

Rice, of 21022 Ancolote Ct., and Hawk-Filicky, of 1312 Roosevelt Dr., are both charged with Possession of Synthetic Narcotics with the Intent to Sell. Rice was released Thursday morning on $7,500 bond. Hawk-Filicky remains in custody while the investigation continues.
