The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is continuing a death investigation in connection with a shooting that occurred Thursday night, March 14 in the area of the 2400 block of 23rd Street.
The male victim has been identified as DeShawn Mitchell, 19, of Sarasota. Anyone with information is asked to contact SCSO Criminal Investigations Sections 941-861-4900 or Crime Stoppers at 941-366-TIPS.

Deputies responded to the 2400 block of 23rd Street late Thursday to investigate several shots fired, one of which struck a television inside an occupied residence; however, no injuries were reported.
The sheriff's K-9 Unit, along with deputies, searched the area, but no suspects or victims were located. Witnesses described several subjects fleeing the area around the time the shots were heard. A red four-door sedan was seen leaving the vicinity at approximately the same time. Area hospitals were checked for gunshot victims, but none were located.
At 8:11 a.m. Friday, deputies were alerted to a dead body found in the same area as last night's shooting. Investigators will remain on the scene as this is an ongoing investigation. There is no known threat to the community at this time.
