The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office charged a Sarasota man with Aggravated Child Abuse and False Imprisonment after he used zip ties to bind a 13-year-old child to plywood.

On Sunday, deputies were alerted to a possible child abuse incident in Sarasota. Through witness statements and as the result of a search warrant, deputies recovered zip ties and plywood at the home of 41-year-old Frank McKay. According to the 13-year-old victim, McKay bound the child to a piece of plywood where he was forced to sleep without a mattress or any linens. The child was given a salad, a banana and two bottles of water a day while bound to the plywood. Through interviews, detectives learned the child was also bound while visiting the home of McKay’s girlfriend, 38-year-old Adecia Johnson, who resides in the city of Sarasota.

McKay is charged with two counts of False Imprisonment and two counts of Aggravated Child Abuse; two charges are from the sheriff’s office and the other are from the Sarasota Police Department. He remains in custody today without bond. McKay has more than a dozen prior arrests in Sarasota County for crimes including Contempt of Court for Non Payment Child Support, Burglary, Possession of Cocaine, and more. Johnson is similarly charged by the Sarasota Police Department with False Imprisonment and Aggravated Child Abuse. She remains in custody today without bond. Both investigations are ongoing.
