Caregiver Arrested for Stealing More Than $100,000 from Elderly Client

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office arrested a 38-year-old Sarasota woman for Grand Theft after she stole more than $100,000 from a 96-year-old client in less than 18 months.
 
Detectives launched their investigation in August 2018 when the Power of Attorney for a 96-year-old Sarasota man discovered suspicious credit card transactions made by Krystle McLeod, the victim’s caregiver and housekeeper. Investigation revealed McLeod not only used the victim’s credit cards but also wrote and cashed 180 checks between March 2017 and August 2018. McLeod accepted payment for her services but also often wrote and cashed more than one check a day and used the money for personal purchases. Collectively, the checks totaled $109,727.
 
McLeod, of 261 Midwest Park, is charged with one felony count of Grand Theft from a Person 65 or Older. She remains in custody today at the Sarasota County Jail. McLeod has prior arrests for Child Neglect, Drug Possession, Resisting an Officer, and more.
