The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office arrested two Miami men Wednesday night after they were found in possession of fraudulent IDs.

Deputies were alerted Wednesday evening just before 5:30 p.m., to the Home Depot on Cattlemen Road in Sarasota, for a man acting suspicious while attempting to open a line of credit. According to the loss prevention team, the suspect checked his cell phone countless times while being asked to provide pertinent information including phone number, address, and more. Responding deputies ran the suspect’s information and quickly learned it did not match his description. As the suspect exited the store, deputies attempted to make contact with him. The suspect, later identified as 35-year-old Shawn Mauriceau, proceeded to strike a deputy in the face before being placed in handcuffs.

At the same time, deputies made contact with a second male, later identified as 35-year-old Junior Paul, who was seen driving to the store with Mauriceau. When deputies asked to see the registration to Paul’s vehicle, he opened the glove compartment where multiple driver’s licenses fell out. Paul then pushed a deputy out of his way before fleeing on foot down Cattlemen Road. Six stolen driver’s licenses were recovered and Paul was taken into custody where he is charged with Unlawful Possession of Personal Identification, Resisting an Officer with Violence and Resisting an Officer Without Violence.

Mauriceau is charged with Criminal Use of Personal Identification, Resisting without Violence, and Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer. Both men remain in custody while the investigation continues and additional charges are pending.
