The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office arrested two Venice men in connection with a robbery that occurred Saturday morning in Nokomis.

An investigation revealed the manager of a Sonny’s BBQ in Venice asked a known acquaintance, 23-year-old William Shepherd, for a ride to work to collect the business bank deposits from the night before and then to a bank for deposit. After collecting the bank deposits at Sonny’s BBQ and on the way to the bank, 24-year-old Dylan Paquin appeared from the rear of the vehicle with a knife near Nokomis Beach. Shepherd and Paquin then forcibly stole the bank deposit money from the Sonny’s manager who was then able to escape the suspect’s vehicle.

Responding deputies were able to locate the suspect’s vehicle as well as Shepherd and Paquin shortly after the robbery. The investigation recovered the stolen bank deposits along with the knife used from within the suspect’s vehicle. Shepherd and Paquin are each charged with Robbery with a Weapon. Shepherd is being held on a $25,000 bond and Paquin is being held on a $50,000 bond. Both remain in custody at the Sarasota County Jail.
