Man Arrested for Firing Gun from Vehicle, Drug Possession

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office arrested a man early Monday morning after he fired a gun out of the window of a moving vehicle.

Deputies initially responded just before 2:00 a.m. for a report of a reckless driver on Clark Road near I-75 in Sarasota. While on the phone with 911, the caller reported hearing gunshots coming from a light-colored pickup truck. Deputies quickly located the driver, identified as Christopher Long, DOB 08/17/82, who admitted to deputies that he fired a weapon from his vehicle. While speaking with deputies, Long agreed to a voluntary search of his vehicle where methamphetamine, prescription pills, drug paraphernalia, a rifle and a handgun, along with spent casings and ammunition, were recovered.

Long was arrested and taken to the Sarasota County Jail. He is charged with two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance without a Prescription, one count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and one count of Firing a Weapon from a Vehicle. He remains in custody on $35,500 bond.
