Stanfield, Carrie

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office charged a Bradenton woman with felony theft after she stole more than $82,000 from a 73-year-old family friend.

Detectives began their investigation in February when the elderly victim reported that she was missing thousands of dollars she believed was stolen by her deceased son’s girlfriend, Carrie Stanfield, DOB 09/28/80. Due to medical issues, the victim signed over power of attorney to Stanfield and asked that she attend civil proceedings and take care of medical costs on the victim’s behalf. On February 13, the victim was notified that her account was missing more than $82,000. Through investigation, detectives learned that Stanfield made dozens of withdrawals and purchases from businesses including Amazon, Wal-Mart, and Publix. Detectives also recovered payments made by Stanfield to her cellphone carrier, insurance company, and various other service providers.

Stanfield, of 4203 55th Avenue Dr. E., was arrested Wednesday and charged with Theft from a Person 65 Years of Older. She was released the same day on $20,000 bond.
