Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Section (CIS) is investigating a shooting that occurred in the area of Fruitville Rd and Cattlemen Rd on Saturday evening, May 13.
At approximately 8:08pm, patrol deputies responded to the area for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, deputies located a deceased male in a pickup truck on Fruitville west of I-75.
A female driver and male passenger were located nearby in a sedan. The male passenger stated, following a verbal altercation, the driver of the pickup pointed a gun at him and the female driver. The male passenger exited the vehicle and fired multiple rounds into the driver’s side of the pickup truck striking the driver of the pickup. (The male passenger has a valid CCW and was carrying a firearm at the time).
The passenger and driver were released at this time while the investigation is ongoing.
The deceased was released to the Medical Examiner’s office and a next-of-kin notification was made. The investigation is ongoing, and detectives are still canvassing the area of the incident.
