Homicide Arrest

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Sarasota man in connection with Saturday’s shooting.
 
Just before noon, deputies were called to the 2300 block of Britannia Road for the report of a shooting. Deputies arrived and found a 47-year-old man deceased from a single gunshot wound. The suspect was immediately identified as 41-year-old Saladine Monroe. According to the witness resident who is Monroe’s ex-wife, Monroe arrived unannounced to visit his 14-year-old son. When the woman asked Monroe to wait outside while she went to a neighbor’s home to pick up their shared son, Monroe entered the home and began looking around the house. Monroe located the victim, whose identity is not being released in accordance with Marsy’s Law, inside a spare bedroom. Monroe accused the victim of having a relationship with his ex-wife before shooting and killing the man. Neither Monroe’s ex-wife nor her son was injured during the incident.
 
Monroe, DOB 05/22/80, is a convicted felon who has prior local arrests including for DUI, Resisting an Officer, and Contempt. On Monday, he was booked into the Sarasota County correctional facility on single counts of Homicide and Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon. He remains in custody without bond.
