Englewood Doctor Charged with Sexual Battery, Molestation

NEWS RELEASE 20-066 - MAY 6, 2020
Lohstreter, Thomas

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office arrested an Englewood physician on multiple counts of Sexual Battery after several female patients reported his misconduct.

Detectives were initially alerted in December 2019 to possible misconduct by 70-year-old Englewood doctor, Thomas Lohstreter. According to the report, the female patient received medical attention on December 23 after becoming ill due to a change in medication. During her appointment and once a female nurse left the room, Lohstreter reportedly examined her breasts and exposed her genitals for an unknown reason. Detectives interviewed Lohstreter who initially denied the allegations but later admitted to touching the patient during a routine exam. Through continued investigation, detectives were alerted to six additional female patients who reported similar misconduct by Lohstreter, with allegations ranging from fondling to sexual battery. Detectives recommended criminal charges to the State Attorney’s Office who reviewed the allegations and issued warrants for Lohstreter’s arrest. He was taken into custody Tuesday and booked into the county’s correctional facility.

Lohstreter, of 7389 S. Serenoa Drive, Sarasota, is charged with three counts of Sexual Assault, a single count of Lewd or Lascivious Molestation Upon an Elderly Disabled Person, and a single count of Battery. He remains in custody today without bond.

The Florida Department of Health suspended Lohstreter’s medical license on March 9 and he is no longer employed at his former practice. Anyone with additional information or concerns related to Lohstreter is urged to contact the Criminal Investigations Section at 941.861.4900.
