Sarasota Man Charged In Connection with Shooting Incidents

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office arrested an 18-year-old Sarasota man on more than a dozen felony charges after connecting him with two separate shootings that occurred early this week in north Sarasota.  
 
On Monday, deputies responded to the area of Clay Circle and King Blvd. in Sarasota for multiple reports of a shooting in which two suspects were seen fleeing the neighborhood. As an investigation began, deputies were again called the following day, for additional reports of a shooting in the area of Booker Avenue and 24th Street. Officers with the Sarasota Police Department who were responding to a separate call for service, located a Dodge Charger believed to be involved in the shooting. They attempted to conduct a traffic stop however the vehicle fled. Officers identified the driver as 18-year-old Mikyle Chamberlain.
 
Sheriff’s office deputies located Chamberlain Tuesday shortly after the shooting and conducted a search of the vehicle he was in, where they recovered four rounds of ammunition and two 9MM magazines. During an interview, Chamberlain admitted to both shootings on Monday and Tuesday, in which three homes and six separate vehicles were damaged due to gunfire. Chamberlain also admitted to leading officers in a vehicle pursuit.
 
Chamberlain, DOB 12/20/01, of 2823 Afton Circle, is charged with three counts of Possession of a Weapon or Ammo by a Florida Delinquent Adult Felon, four counts of Discharging of a Firearm from a Vehicle, three counts of Shooting at or into a Dwelling, four counts of Property Damage More than $1,000, a single count of Firing a Weapon in Public or on Residential Property, and Tampering with Evidence. He remains in custody today on $83,000 bond.
 
Chamberlain has two prior local arrests for Armed and Unarmed Burglary. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.
