Animal Care Technician

DUTIES

The Animal Care Technician will perform custodial work in the kennel section of Animal Services. This will include but is not limited to answering phone calls, interacting with the public regarding lost/found animals and adoptions, issuing civil citations as part of an enforcement team, caring, feeding, cleaning, transporting, performing animal euthanasia as needed, and observing the variety of animals housed at the facility. The Animal Care Technician will make initial and continual medical and health evaluations of animals in the agency’s care. This includes but is not limited to administering medications and scheduling appointments for veterinary care.

STARTING SALARY
Salary range upon hire: $37,213 - $45,213 (determined by acceptable prior related experience).
Long-term salary cap: $59,213.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to have compassion for animals and make careful visual observations.
  • Ability to learn and explain Sarasota County Animal Control Ordinances.
  • Knowledge of the care of animals.      
  • Veterinary assistant knowledge preferred.
