Sarasota County Sheriff's Office Employment Hiring Prerequisites

Corrections Applicants

  • Must be a United States citizen.

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

  • Must possess a High School Diploma or GED.

  • Must possess an Associates Degree or equivalent or a Veteran with an honorable discharge unless Florida Corrections Certified or currently attending a Florida Corrections Academy.

  • Must successfully complete the FBAT (Florida Basic Abilities Test) if not corrections certified. Required by FDLE for entrance into the Corrections Recruit Academy.

  • Must meet the minimum standards of the Agency approved physical abilities test (PAT).

  • Must successfully complete an oral review board and meet eligibility score. 

  • Must have a valid Florida Drivers License.

  • Must meet the Agency approved Drug Policy.                  

  • Must submit to complete background investigation and found to   be of good moral character, polygraph, and psychological screening exam.

  • Must submit to a complete physical examination including drug   screen, hearing, and vision.
