Sarasota County Sheriff's Office Employment Hiring Prerequisites


Law Enforcement Applicants

  • Must be Florida Law Enforcement certified or currently attending a Florida Law Enforcement Academy*.

  • Currently accepting applications for sponsorship to the Florida Law Enforcement Academy for those meeting the established education requirements.

  • Must be a United States citizen.

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

  • Must meet the minimum standards of the Agency approved physical abilities test (PAT).

  • Must successfully complete an oral review board and meet eligibility score. 

  • Must have a valid Drivers License.

  • Must meet the Agency approved Drug Policy.                  

  • Must submit to complete background investigation determining good moral character, polygraph, and a psychological screening exam with satisfactory results.

  • Must submit to a complete physical examination including drug screen, hearing, and vision.

  • Must successfully complete Agency firearms qualification standard.
