The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man for Grand Theft after locating a stolen tractor valued at $82,000 in his back yard.
Around 5:00 p.m., last night, deputies received an alert ping from Lojack indicating a stolen Case tractor was in the vicinity of 16051 Whidden Road in Sarasota. Patrol, the K9 Unit and Aviation worked together to locate the equipment at the listed address.
Deputies contacted the property owner, James Trippe, DOB 8/11/82, who initially claimed he didn’t have a tractor on his property, but eventually consented to a search and the vehicle was located next to an outbuilding and partially covered by a tarp.
The tractor, equipped with a backhoe and front loader, was stolen from Hillsborough County on October 18 near I-4 and US 301. Deputies contacted its owner who recovered the tractor last night.
Trippe was released on $7,500 bond this morning. The investigation is continuing.
