Sarasota County Sheriff Tom Knight today promoted five men and one woman to new supervisory positions in Patrol and Special Operations.
Captain John Walsh, promoted from Lieutenant, becomes the Patrol Bureau Commander; Lieutenant Dave Scott, promoted from Sergeant, will serve as a Patrol Bureau Watch Commander; and Lieutenant Debra Kaspar, promoted from Sergeant, is also a Patrol Bureau Watch Commander.
Detective Mike Dumer and Deputy Scott Mruczek were both promoted to Sergeant and assigned to the Patrol Bureau. Deputy Brent Wineka was promoted to Chief Pilot of the Aviation Unit, still assigned to Special Operations.
The promotional process was formalized during Sheriff Knight’s first term in office to ensure its objectivity. These steps were outlined in his initial Management Review and implemented in the 2009-2013 Strategic Plan.
“These professionals have been trained to lead the Sheriff’s Office and their promotions today are part of our succession plan,” said Sheriff Knight. “With the right leadership, employees improve the effectiveness of the organization and instill important qualities in those they manage and supervise, enhancing our ability to serve this community.”
In addition to the promotions, Captain Paul Richard was named Commander of the Investigations Bureau.
