The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office arrested two brothers last night for manufacturing methamphetamine at a homeless camp in the wooded area east of Cattlemen Road and Webber Street in Sarasota.
Special Investigations Section detectives received information from their counterparts at the Sarasota Police Department that John Bedford, DOB 11/17/82, and David Haring, DOB 8/14/93, were cooking meth in their tents. Detectives determined Haring bought one of the main ingredients, Pseudoephedrine, on Wednesday and Bedford purchased more on Thursday. Undercover detectives and deputies from the Tactical Unit went to the campsite just before 9:00 p.m., and found all the materials necessary to cook meth and significant quantities of the drug.
Both men admitted cooking meth and were charged with Manufacturing Methamphetamine and Trafficking in Methamphetamine. Bedford has a history of drug, burglary and battery arrests.
