The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office conducts monthly saturation patrols to remove dangerous, uninsured or impaired drivers from local roadways to keep motorists safe.
Because of our commitment to keep the public aware of these ongoing education and enforcement efforts, results are provided at the end of each month and dates for the following month’s activity are announced.
In July, deputies conducted saturation patrols on five different days, including the July 4th holiday weekend, resulting in 15 DUI arrests and 174 citations for other traffic offenses.
It is important to note that these numbers are for the saturation patrols only and do not include DUI arrests made during the month outside of these specific initiatives.
In August, saturation patrols will be conducted on the 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st. As explained over the past few months, saturation patrols are conducted instead of what is referred to as a “DUI Checkpoint” and includes a number of Patrol and Traffic deputies working targeted zones at the same time to monitor driving activity. Because of their design, saturation patrols are mobile so they take place in different areas of the county.
