The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has joined Operation Chill™ again this year, the popular community service program sponsored by 7-Eleven® stores.
Deputies will "ticket" youngsters who are caught in random acts of kindness, good deeds or positive community activities with free Slurpee coupons. Appropriate "offenses" might include helping another person, wearing a helmet while riding a bicycle or skateboarding, deterring crime or participating in the Sheriff’s Activities League.
“Positive interaction between deputies kids helps build relationships in our community,” said Sheriff Tom Knight. “Recognizing them with a favorite treat in the summer heat reinforces good conduct and could have a long-lasting impact."
Since the program's inception in 1995, more than 11 million Operation Chill coupons have been distributed to law enforcement agencies in neighborhoods where 7-Eleven operates stores. During the upcoming summer months and back-to-school season, good kids in more than 600 communities will receive free Slurpee coupons.
