The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has arrested an Osprey teen after blood found at the scene of a business burglary connected him to the crime.
In January 2012, two suspects smashed the glass at KC Key Food Mart on West Albee Road in Nokomis, entered the store and stole more than $1,000 worth of merchandise.
Deputies responding to the scene collected blood evidence left behind when the suspects jumped over the counter. Testing performed by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) resulted in a match to the DNA profile of Evan Greer, DOB 11/16/94, 104 Villa Drive, Osprey. Further comparison of Buccal swabs obtained from Greer in connection with his conviction for three other business burglaries in August 2012 also confirmed the DNA from KC Key Food Mart was Greer’s.
Greer was arrested Tuesday and charged with Burglary of an Unoccupied Structure. He was released from the Sarasota County Jail after posting $7,500 bond. Detectives are still working to identify his accomplice.
