Arrest for Stealing from Elderly

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office has arrested James Sunday, DOB 2/4/58, 800 S. Jefferson Street, Sarasota, for stealing thousands of dollars from an elderly friend.

The 86-year-old victim told detectives that Sunday talked her into selling her 2008 Ford Escape after he convinced her it was costing too much and claimed they could buy a more affordable vehicle together. Sunday told the salesman who was buying the Ford that the victim was selling it because she couldn’t drive anymore.

The victim said Sunday took her to cash the check for the balance owed to her after the lien was paid off but he kept the entire $4,452. A short time later Sunday bought a 1998 GMC Jimmy for $2,530 in cash and registered it in his name alone.

Sunday is charged with Theft from a Person Over 65 Years of Age or Older.
