The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office has arrested a home health care worker for using an elderly patient’s credit card to purchase more than $3,000 worth of items for herself.
The victim’s son reported that someone used his 80-year-old mother’s credit card multiple times. He explained that when the victim lived in Sarasota County she was a resident of Venetian Gardens and had a visiting Certified Nursing Assistant.
Detectives obtained surveillance video of the fraudulent transactions and discovered the suspect was Amy Lynn Smith, DOB 4/19/72, 1326 Rice Terrace, North Port, the woman hired to care for the victim. Smith purchased multiple Visa gift cards, obtained cash and bought other items on the woman’s card without permission.
Smith was booked into the Sarasota County Jail yesterday afternoon and charged with Fraudulent use of a Credit Card and Grand Theft. She was released on $2,000 bond.
