The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office has identified the man whose body was found in a canal near channel marker 72 on Siesta Key last night around 7:00 p.m.

The victim was 41-year-old Robert Chittenden, 5239 Herons Way in The Landings. He apparently told someone he was going swimming, and deputies found some of his belongings in a pavilion near marker 74, which is at the end of a nature walk across from his home.

There were no signs of trauma and foul play is not suspected, but the Medical Examiner’s office will perform an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
