South Venice Burglar Tracked to Nearby Home

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has arrested MacKenzie Egeland, DOB 12-17-93, 1177 Duquesne Road, Venice, after a man found him burglarizing his South Venice home about 11:00 p.m., last night.

Deputies responded to Forest Road and were assisted in their search by Sheriff’s Office helicopter Air-1 and the Venice Police Department. K-9 Officer Long and her dog Abram tracked the suspect from the point of entry at the victim’s home to a residence on Edgewood Road. Deputies made contact with the home’s owner who explained Egeland had arrived at the house minutes before. Deputies took Egeland into custody and during the investigation recovered property stolen in yet another burglary from a pond directly behind the house where he was found.

Egeland is charged with Burglary of an Occupied Dwelling. Additional charges are pending.
