Shooting Investigation and Arrest

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office has arrested Troy Hugan, DOB 11/19/80, 2923 Pershing Avenue, Sarasota, in connection with an altercation that took place on North Washington Boulevard early this morning and also led to a deadly shooting.

Hugan is currently charged with one count of Domestic Battery for a physical altercation with a woman and four counts of Aggravated Assault for threatening her and three of her friends with a gun when they came to her rescue.

The man who was killed has been identified as Edwin Frett, DOB 4/6/61, 1823 Sanford Circle in Sarasota. He arrived at the scene after his daughter called and told him about the fight with Hugan and the shooting erupted a short time later. Detectives continue speaking with witnesses and victims to determine the exact chain of events.

Two of the shooting victims were treated and released. A third victim is currently hospitalized in stable condition.
