A 20-year-old Bradenton man pleaded guilty to Attempted Murder and was sentenced yesterday to 20 years in state prison for shooting another man over a drug debt.
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office arrested Joshua T. Lopez shortly after the crime on April 8, 2012. Lopez and his 17-year-old brother Carlos drove to a home in the 3900 block of Butler Avenue on that Sunday afternoon and began shooting at the apartment as they got out of their vehicle. One of the bullets narrowly missed a man who was standing in the doorway and another bullet from Joshua’s gun struck his brother in the back of head.
Lopez continued running through the apartment, caught up with a second man in the back yard and shot him twice. The victim survived. Lopez’s brother died at the scene.
