The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office wants boaters to keep safety in mind as they head out on the water this Memorial Day Weekend.
Boating accidents are most often caused by factors such as carelessness, inattention, navigation-rule violations, inexperience and alcohol consumption.
The Marine Patrol unit will make sure boaters have all safety gear onboard and that it is operational, and will enforce Boating Under the Influence laws.
“It is important to educate the public about safe boating ,” said Sheriff Tom Knight. “Just like impaired motorists, impaired boaters risk their lives and the lives of others when they are at the helm. We are committed to keeping Sarasota County waterways safe for residents and visitors alike.”
