The Sarasota County Board of County Commissioners recognized the Public Safety Communications Center (PSC) on Tuesday and proclaimed April 8-14, 2012, Public Safety Telecommunications Week.
Nationally, the second full week of April is dedicated to the men and women who serve as public safety telecommunicators. The Sarasota County PSC is a multi-agency communications center that provides full services for the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, Sarasota County Fire Department, Nokomis Fire Department, Venice Fire Department, North Port Fire Department, Englewood Fire Department and Sarasota Police Department.
Approximately 100 Sheriff’s Office employees answer an estimated 485,000 9-1-1 and non-emergency calls each year. The PSC is a multi-discipline Accredited Center of Excellence (ACE) and is accredited by both the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies and the National Academies of Emergency Dispatch.
