Vehicle Burglary Investigation

NEWS RELEASE 18-196 - DECEMBER 5, 2018 
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the burglary of an agency member’s vehicle as well as the theft of two firearms and several pieces of duty equipment.

Detectives were notified early Tuesday morning that Detective Brian Keane, an 18-year veteran of the sheriff’s office and city of North Port resident, left his vehicle unlocked overnight. Sometime between Monday evening and early Tuesday morning, a suspect or suspects entered his agency vehicle and stole two firearms and several pieces of specialized equipment. Keane is a member of the agency’s SWAT team and as such, has specialty weapons in his car including a sniper rifle. An internal affairs investigation has been launched.
