The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office arrested two people on felony drug charges following a traffic stop that led deputies to discover more than 14 grams of heroin and marijuana.

Just after 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, Tactical Unit deputies witnessed a silver Nissan traveling 90 mph southbound on I-75. A traffic stop was initiated as the vehicle exited the interstate near the intersection of Clark and Gantt Roads in Sarasota. As deputies approached the vehicle, the obvious odor of marijuana was present. Upon search of the car, deputies recovered a small amount of marijuana and, in the passenger’s purse, 14.25 grams of heroin. Driver Ricky Freeman, DOB 12/26/66, of Lehigh Acres, and passenger Lisa Hylton, DOB 08/05/65, of 3343 Williamsburg Street in Sarasota, were both arrested and transported to the Sarasota County Jail.

The duo is charged with a single count each of Trafficking in Heroin 14-28 Grams and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Hylton was released Thursday on $15,500 bond. Freeman remains in custody on $100,500 bond. The investigation is ongoing.
