Impaired Driver Causes Two Crashes, Arrested for DUI

                                                                                                             NEWS RELEASE #: 17-036 - FEBRUARY 8, 2017

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office arrested a man Monday evening on DUI charges after he caused two crashes on Siesta Key.

Deputies responded to the 500 block of Beach Road around 5:30 p.m., for a report of a hit-and-run involving a driver who struck a bicyclist. While investigating the crash, deputies learned that the same vehicle crashed into a pole a short distance away, in the 6100 block of Midnight Pass Road. When deputies made contact with 44-year-old Brynley Jones, they found him sitting on the sidewalk, next to his damaged convertible. DUI Unit deputies conducted a field sobriety test but had to stop due to Jones' inability to complete the exercises. Jones was taken to the Sarasota County Jail for observation and a blood alcohol test revealed a .233 blood alcohol content, nearly three times the legal limit.

Jones, of 5209 Calle Menorca Drive Unit 213, Sarasota, is charged with two counts of DUI .15 or higher, two counts of DUI with Property Damage, Hit and Run, and Resisting an Officer without Violence. He was released Tuesday evening on $3,000 bond.
