The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is advising the public that Stephen James Smith, DOB 09/17/52, has registered as a Sexual Offender temporarily living in Sarasota County.
Smith was convicted of fourth-degree Attempted Criminal Sexual Conduct in 2001 in Michigan. He reports his temporary address will be 211 East Dearborn Street in Englewood. Smith is not currently under the supervision of the Florida Department of Corrections and because he was convicted out of state prior to 2004, residency restrictions do not apply.
This information is posted on the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office website, agency Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts to publicly notify citizens of sex offenders and predators who register a Sarasota County address for the first time, when moving into the county or following a release from prison. Citizens should still sign up to receive notifications from the FDLE of sex offender and predator registrations.
