The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Sarasota man on Monday for a shooting that occurred Sunday night.

Deputies first responded to the 2500 block of Man of War Circle in Sarasota just before 9:00 p.m., after a woman called 911 from inside her home to report a shooting. Deputies quickly made contact with the woman and continued inside to check the residence for anyone who may be injured. Upon entering the master bedroom, deputies discovered numerous rifles, an odor of fresh gun powder, and a man barricaded inside the closet refusing to come out. When deputies made entry into the closet they found John Slattery, DOB 02/20/77, lying on top of additional rifles. Slattery was transported to the hospital after deputies determined he may be under the influence of narcotics or alcohol. A search warrant was subsequently conducted at the residence Monday where detectives found evidence of a gun being fired multiple times within the home as well as methamphetamine. Through investigation, detectives found no evidence to indicate a home invasion or burglary occurred.

Slattery was transported to the Sarasota County Jail and is charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Firing a Deadly Missile into a Dwelling, and Using a Firearm While Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance. He is held on $45,000 bond.
